Allergan has maintained a privileged position in the drug industry with its eye care products and its Botox monopoly. It's good to be the king. Various organizations have praised AGN's management and gameplan, but are they really that good or is it just another case of "being born on third and thinking the hit a triple"?
Their eye care business is being cut into by ACL, and their is increasingly serious competition in the cosmetic wrinkle and implant business. Years of non competition have left AGN fat, lazy and arrogant. They are like the old telephone company, "We don't care, we don't have to care". Noe they are facing real competition, my prediction is they are not going to fare too well.
Yes and they also have liability issues. Botox has caused some people serious problems. I wouldn't take a chance with my body. I like to breathe and don't want to knock out important functions if Botox (a poison) gravitates to unintended places.
At least one recent settlement has been in the news. What's next for AGN?
