What's happened that I have not heard to push the stock down over 15%. Are we heading for poor earnings? Is there trouble at the top? I've seen nothing but good news on Staples. The stock split should be an indication of the company's faith in the future earnings of the company. So what's up?
Spoke with investor relations today....earnings will be announced 1st week in March...Company says they did not change their guidance to analyst prior to blackout period...says CFO indicates if you look at the history this period each Jan the stock shows similar weakness....if earnings are going to be on target this may be a buying opportunity...
I would think that the decline is due to the fear the Staples will have lower than expected earnings for the year. Earnings should be anounced sometime next month. I also think that the reports of poor results by many retail stores for this quarter maybe a factor in this decline. I would also assume that it is due in part to the overall market drop.
Staples is a strong company, and I don't think any long term investors should have anything to worry about.
