    Im 21 and need some advice

    I pulled the money out but now its just sitting there and im looking for something to put it in until the market turns. that government income fund isnt looking bad for the time being.

      Seriously, if your 21 and have cashed out, hold for awhile. There is just too much negativity. The world isn't going to end tomorrow (at least its unlikely). When things look great they usually aren't quite as good as you think and when they are going bad, they aren't quite as bad as they appear.

      Recessions are a normal business cycle! Will probably not help stocks for 6-12 months. Then re-evaluate.

      • With the fed lowering interest rates careful a gov't income fund may not keep up particularly with a declining dollar. The other idea is that sitting on the sidelines trying to jump back in just before a turnaround can be risky (i.e. easy to miss that quick upswing).

        Other ideas you might consider are a gold mining fund like BGEIX, or if you are just starting out and it's hard to diversify with a smaller portfolio something like VGSTX offers international exposure without less of a footing in emerging markets alone. Oh another 'foreign' but well managed mutual fund with nice returns is Fid Canada FICDX.
