    LU and ETS became partner ( ETS web site ) and any networking contract for LU means ETS get a piece of the pie.

    Lucent to provide voice and data network modernization for U.S. Army bases in the United States and Germany


    MURRAY HILL, N.J., April 14, 2005 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU) today announced several contracts, totaling $36.3 million, with the United States Department of the Army to provide network integration and professional services for a communications infrastructure upgrades at U.S. Army installations in North America and Europe. The agreements are in support of the Army's Installation Information Infrastructure Modernization Program (I3MP), which is focused on upgrading voice and data network infrastructure at Army bases around the world.

    The bases included in the Lucent contract include three U.S.-based facilities: Fort Gordon and Fort Benning in Georgia and Scofield Enclave in Hawaii and three U.S. Army bases in Germany: Husterhohe Kaserne, Pulaski Barracks, and Kleber Kaserne.

    In 2003, Lucent announced an earlier group of contracts with the Army valued at $50 million for infrastructure upgrades at Army installations in North America and Asia.

    Lucent Worldwide Services (LWS) will provide a variety of services at each base including installation, integration and ongoing maintenance of the new communications infrastructure that ties together voice switches and high-speed optical and data equipment.

    • Yes the connection with such high volume co.s as Lucent and Siemens is positive. It at least certifies the company and allows for hopes for future use of the products. Of course contacts do not always mean contracts but it is a positive somewhat. I think of Proxim that has contacts out the kazoo and is one of the great tragedies of the tech world. I ,IMHO, think the need for the secure equiptment is going to make ETS. The little warning bump is a bit overdone.
