by the way non-professional shorts should learn something from these hdge guys and seriously question their ongoing commitment to the short on panl. hdge demonstrated diversification (any one position doesn't account for much overall) and risk management (not perfect at least it existed) in handling their short position on panl. Have you?
They've increased their panl short
Sorry I haven't mastered collecting the data each day...
suffice it to say they have been swimming upstream the last few days...
just a little perspective RC@DC has about 47 times as many shares long as HDGE has short... yet its their transparency that might give us insights into the mind of those who have shorted significantly more taking the other side.
You are too obsessed with shorts.
Dude you are talking about a former motley fool.
He is a rookie and somebody--say a fidelity or Goldman or another hedge fund can start buying--say a few million shares of pressure---and CRUSH the dude into a huge loss.
Dude is barking up the wrong tree in regards to PANL and "forensic" accounting.
I would be interested in the specific reasons for a short position in panl as well as do they trade or short and hold for a specific target or perceived outcome such as a bankruptcy or drastic loss in business.
I still say that the difference in stock price ( 60+ vs 30+ )between analysts is far too wide to accept without questioning competence or dishonest business conduct.
Personally I am disappointed at the prospect of a stalled income stream for who knows exactly how long. Turning the eight ball upside down to read the answer is rather unsettling.
I hope for some real answers and clear guidance come 2Q conference.
regarding "whats its worth" we may be able to reverse-engineer via their commitment to transparency to figure out what thresholds UDC has to pass to fall out of their radar...and try to predict when that would happen.
Perhaps there are some benefits to transparent short selling funds and understanding when they will finally leave us be.
paraphrasing here from online video
per Bloomberg July interview (generic not panl specific)
Q: how to decide what to short:
A: Examples provided:
"deterioration in business"
"earnings reported not sustainable"
"using accounting to mask sustainability"
"they want to use their analysis to predict revenue misses"
"digging in and finding things behind the numbers"
"Q: when to cover short?"...
"A: once we're on the same side of wall street"
Andy or perhaps others have offered to engage short sellers directly in a meaningful discussion...may I ask Andy and/or Doug to offer a Q/A or interview session with John Del Vecchio regarding his thoughts on PANL and share said transcript with the group.
