    Very Good for PANL

All this does is usher in OLED all that more quickly - if companies need to innovate to avoid the rectangle, OLED is the way to do it! Expect to see greater OLED adoption as a result of this verdict.

PANL execs are smiling right now!

    • since the dispay had really nothing to do with the suit, I think it will be minimal if any impact on UDC..

They ruled the bounceback feature was a copy, ok so quick software download to change it to curl the edge or something. for next phones coming off the line,, same thing new SW.

I do not think an OLED or any other type of screen is going to unfringe on an apple patent for the retina display. I would assume most would not copy it anyways..

icons can be changed easily too. so I do not think an OLED display is a key different feature. it llights up just like any other, so visually it does not matter to the average teen.

    • If Samsung in the near term (should they be banned from selling the phones that have been deemed to infringe on Apple's IP) cannot sell millions of phones that use OLED screens to U.S. customers, I fail to see how this will benefit PANL. In the long term it won't matter. But this does not seem like good news for PANL near term. (Disclosure: I have been long PANL since 1999, still am and will continue to be).

      • For my two bits' worth, it seems that whether this is good or bad for UDC in the next few months depends on the next phase of what really is shaping up as World IP War I: Apple v. Samsung, Samsung v. Apple, Oracle v Google, Google v. Apple. I doubt if Amazon can stay out for long; they are rumored to have schemed to launch the antitrust e-book lawsuit against Apple.

In the next phase it will be decided whether to ban the import of some Samsung products (bad for us for the time being) or merely to hurry up and produce ones with more differentiation from Apple products (good). Apparently Judge Koh is weighing this choice.

There will be many more battlefields. Throughout WIPWI, however, the equivalent of arms makers and purveyors should thrive, i.e., patent producers and holders like UDC (and QCOM, IDCC, etc., on the wireless side).

It is a wonderful time to be an IP litigator.

      • canarsie dude,

Your 1st post in all of those years--ya right.

UDC has already sold the chemicals in those phones.

        1st post was dumb dude.

    • I'll vote for that
