from Digitimes. end of the first quarter is next week so hopefully this time AUO can actually make amoled panels.
AU Optronics (AUO) and Innolux Corporation are expected to delay mass production of Full HD handset panels until the second quarter of 2013, according to industry sources.
The makers are reportedly producing samples that will be ready for various customers at the beginning of the second quarter, but may have to wait another two months before mass producing the technology, as the makers will need their customers to certify the samples.
The delay may hurt the Taiwan-based makers' chances of landing major orders for the technology during the second quarter, which may be shifted to other Full HD handset panel makers such as Sharp or Japan Display, said the sources.
Meanwhile, AUO is reportedly bumping up its yields for small-size AMOLED panels and is expected to start producing small volumes of the technology by the end of the first quarter, added the sources.
