    New Samsung wristwatch smartphone

Bloomberg has news that in a couple of weeks Samsung will release a wearable smartphone. (Search on Samsung and Wristwatch-like.) No word in the article on the screen being OLED, but how could it not be?

    • Wow! I had no idea samsung even had a watch in the pipeline. You about Apple planning on having one but Samsung has been hush hush about theirs. Some googling reveals that Samsung's patent is for a flexible screen that wraps around the wrist. If they implement that design this go around, then it has to be OLED, right? No other screen technology can flex.

      • If it's to be worn on your wrist, you would think that glass would be a poor choice for the substrate. You would think it would need to be unbreakable (flexible) and therefore plastic. BTW, where is LG in this race? They've worked with UDC on the flexible US Army wrist screen project for some time now. You would expect they try to move to a commercial application before anyone unless they are working behind closed doors with Apple. Maybe the first Apple OLED product will be a watch and not an iphone???

      • Well according to Bloomberg, Samsung didn't implement the flexible display for this release but apparently has one in the works.

Samsung's smartwatch to be unveiled Sept. 4, report says

The Samsung smartwatch will be unveiled in early September, according to a report this week.
SamMobile, a website that covers Samsung news, reports that it has confirmed that the South Korean tech giant will unveil its rumored device on Sept. 4.
The unveiling will take place at the IFA annual consumer electronics show in Berlin, where Samsung is also expected to announce the Galaxy Note III smartphone, the report says.
The device is expected to be named the Galaxy Gear, and SamMobile reports that it will be a companion accessory that will work with Samsung Galaxy smartphones.
According to patents of the device, the Galaxy Gear may have a flexible screen as well as a removable wristband that could be interchanged with bands of different colors.
If Samsung does announce the Galaxy Gear next month, it will be the first among several tech companies, including Apple, Google and Microsoft, that have been recently rumored to be working on smartwatches.
Last week, artists not related to Samsung depicted what the Galaxy Gear device may look like.
Samsung could not be reached for comment on the SamMobile report.

    • The generation 6 Apple nano, 1 inch non oled display but not a smartphone, was usable as a watch. I only know this because I found one of those little buggers on the beach earlier this year. I seem to recall CNBC going gaga over this watch sized device that wasn't really smart, but it seemed to be a flop with Apple users, who were mainly fitness people who used the similar sized, but no display Shuffle, found the the touchscreen difficult to use. The audience for a smart watch should be different for Samsung.
