4:20 (Dow Jones) Intuitive Surgical (ISRG) turns in a big 1Q, easily topping Street expectations on top and bottom line, on strong sales associated with its "da vinci" surgical robots. ISRG says it sold 140 machines in the first quarter, a 20-machine rise from a year ago, pushing system revenue up 24%. JMP Securities had expected 126 system sales. Meantime, procedures -- which reflect recurring revenue because the company sells tools used in surgery, plus service deals -- rose about 29%. ISRG credits higher gynecologic and general-surgery procedures in the US and urological procedures in international markets.
