    Question for andersongordan and e11ndofwar

Hey guys, thanks for sharing your analysis on this board. I have a question for you.
I'm looking for a source of surgical statistics that would allow me to compare procedure volumes and share for open vs robotic vs lap over time. Right now I'm specifically interested in the historical trend in prostatectomy and recent data for hysterectomy but I frequently find myself wanting data on procedure volumes and trends. Do either of you have any experience finding and using this kind of data?

Don't know of any direct way to get surgeries. I have tracked ISRG surgeons by quarter by type of surgeons and compared those numbers with the quarterly reported surgeries taken from their investor paper (on ISRG web site). This gives a historical graph but nothing up to date. ISRG use to put doctors on their web site every few days. Now weekly or bi-weekly at random....much less helpful and I suspect it too is delayed anywhere from a week to a month. My growth functions are now the best estimate I have but they are not able to predict law suits, deleterious articles or "Greenberg" type exposés.

      Sentiment: Hold

    • Fish,

You might try advanced searching jamanetwork for the information you want. I found an article with terms like: robotically, assisted, vs, laparoscopic, hysterectomy, among, women, with, benign, gynecologic, disease, which has some of the stats. Similarly, comparative, effectiveness, of, minimally, invasive, vs, open, radical, prostatectomy, will yield some more.

Many times I go in search of images of charts or tables when I'm looking for things like this.

Blasted YH rules, anyway. They encourage ignorance. I am not a spammer!
