    CEO PAY

$100,000 increase and an increase in options, why? He has not done anything but run MRK into the ground. MRK is one of the worst performing big pharmas. I think he should be run out of the company not rewarded, the board of directors must be one of those lame never do anything weak type of board directors. The CEO has to go!

    • I agree. If it goes down more this guy will probably get more yet. The more we loose the more he makes, this must be like the government.

    • sadly, this is the norm throughout industry, look at enron, polaroid, kmart, global crossing, etc. Being a CEO CFO, etc. makes you the member of a special club who are cozy with BOD's. Let's face it, once you have one of these positions it is a guaranteed get rich job, no matter how well you perform. Thus it is a form of welfare. Performance only determines hoe rich you get, at the expense of lower level employees who may have done very well at their FORMER jobs. The only way to end this is to have more investors (institutional etc. since everyone on this board is small change) and force a board seat as some have done.

      • Do you own any shares of MRK, britelit?

How you can put MRK in the same sentence with Enron, Polaroid, K-mart and Global crossing is beyond comprehension.

MRK makes 8 BILLION DOLLARS A YEAR IN PROFITS. Until this coming year (2002), MRK has grown profits of an average of at least 10% during Gilmartin's tenure.

I'm not saying he's perfect nor am I saying that its not time for him to go, but how can you compare what Gilmartin has done at MRK to those other bankrupt companies?

Once again, name all the companies making more Profit/year than MRK. Perhaps you'll come up with a handful.

Now name one that has generate more in profits during Gilmartin's years?

I forgot to mention... Medco has gone from 3 billion a year in revenues to 26 billion in revenues in the last nine years. It looks like somebody did their job.

If you own Merck, then you have the vote to get rid of them.
