You guys who don't want to hear baseball don't need to read all of our ugly comments about Dan Uggla here. I will reserve any baseball comments to Smelly exclusively in this thread.
Kimbrel's shoulder should be of concern, but some soreness this early in the season isn't uncommon. The Braves manager Gonzalez has to resist the temptation to throw him out there every day. Pitchers who throw as hard as Kimbrel often have a short shelf life.
Uggla cost you the game, plain and simple. He just can't ever hit enough home runs to compensate for his defensive blunders. The fact is Dan Uggla is a defensive liability. He always has been too. I saw the replay of that tailor made double play ball. The ball went right under his glove. A little leaguer could have made that play, and it cost the Braves the lead and the game.
The best you can hope for is Uggla to go on a two month hitting rampage. Then MAYBE your general manager can trade him, but for now, the Braves and their fans are stuck with this guy. He and his fat contract aren't going anywhere.
Did you catch the Braves last night? Gattis had 4 hits including the game winning homerun, Teheran gave a Greg Maddux imitation (3 hit shutout) and Uggla fielded like a major leaguer. Very early in the season but it looks like getting rid of McCann was the right decision. NYY are paying McCann $17M and he#$%$ .208. Braves are paying Gattis $520K and he#$%$ .378 and isn't injured - yet.
I thought I'd ask you a question here on our off topic thread so as not to offend some of our hard core board regulars. We were at dinner earlier this week when somebody suggested I take a look at Millennium Healthcare. It trades over the counter with the symbol MHCC. At first glance, the company seems like an interesting investment, but I wonder how difficult it will be for them to raise future cash. If you have a minute, I'd respect your opinion about this company.
The Braves and the Phillies just played two back to back pitchers duels. Those are the type of games where you have to say it is a shame somebody has to lose. Certainly Cliff Lee and Alex Wood both deserved a better fate. Your Braves sure look strong to me with that quality starting pitching. I usually like to wait until Memorial Day to see how things shake out, but it appears the Braves are headed back to the postseason again.
Uggla hit two home runs last night including a grand slam to win the game. Do we owe him an apology, or is the Phillies bullpen just that pathetic? Dan Uggla is certainly providing some good, free advertising for lasik surgery.
Your Braves won both of their first two series by taking 2 of 3. You win over 100 games and a pennant that way. The key for the Braves is getting that young pitching to continue holding up.Nobody wins a pennant in April, but right now those young starters look outstanding. Can any of these young starters give you 200 innings this season though?
It appears your Braves have hit a bump in the road. I was wondering how long a mediocre pitcher like Harang could maintain one of the best earned run averages in the league. You had to know that water would eventually find its level. There is a reason this guy gets traded every year.
I hate to change the subject from MiMedx, but the sun is shining here, and the boys are heading north now to open the season!
I have been reading that there are some question marks around your Braves bullpen this year? The Braves should still win the NL East. It isn't a real strong division anymore.
I don't have any predictions. I haven't followed the winter trades carefully. I thought last year that the Pirates had a very good, young team. They should compete again for a National League pennant barring injury.
Did you watch the All-Star game last summer, and have you had a chance to see Manny Machado play? The kid was a superstar in the making. He might have been the brightest young third baseman I've seen since Brooks Robinson played there. Machado tore up his knee last September and needed ACL surgery. Now he has pain, inflammation and scar tissue. I've wondered whether Amniofix would get that kid back on the field sooner. Nobody could field third base like Brooks Robinson, but Machado is a good fielder, and a great young hitter. His knee is keeping him out now until further notice.
