Hoping that someone on this board knows who if anybody is covering Thermedics Detection (TDX). Posted on their board -- apparently everybody's asleep. Started managing a friend's portfolio, she has a good sized block. Have done the usual outside research, trying to get a broad as possible perspective before making any reccomendations. Not interested in TMO's politics and management, just some thoughtful projections on TDX.
the firm continues to struggle with a declining market for airport systems (like VVID and others). Other markets ok but not a thrill. They have the technology, but the commercial applications are disappointing as you know.
...in a great bull market. Why invest in an illiquid company that often doesn't even open? You indicated your a trader,so this doesn't make sense. Plus the pplc stock is just waiting for an opportunity to bail out. Add on to that, you have here falling eps estimates. Even if you give tdx a generous 20x estimated earnings, that implies a stock price in the $8 range. If that were not enough, the ceo's are entering and exiting this company faster than a revolving door: a total of three ceos in about four years. Furthermore, this company can not deliver on promises:several years ago we heard the usual thermo hype about poultry and meat inspection instruments...and we saw the great sentour device for narcotic detection...and how about pinkertons? Lots of talk, but little or no bottom line results. And ofcourse you are a minority shareholder with no rights. Now,if you still want to know the sell side analysts who "cover" this stock, then call tmo ir or ask your broker.
JMMsh TDX looks ok at this point as a going concern. I believe VL follows TDX, so more info to be found there.TMD has tripped up and is having an earnings problem. Maybe some day it will get it together again, but I am out of it. There is more negative stuff here on the thermo units than I have seen anywhere. My personal experience with the thermo group has been very positive and profitable. I have owned 9 of them, some 3-4 times. I trade them on a month-year bases and have made money. For me they have been a great investment. The fundementals on most are pretty, especially TMO, and THI. Some of the units are not profitable and I even question their products...TLZ for one. But....I made 100% in that stock within a month, so I can't complain. I am only in it for the money!! good investing, John
