Breaking ground on $85.00 look for this baby to poise for upper and better target. split 2for1 possible in very near future. Why do you think this company was in a buy back mode. The reason to be the higher powers will get richer. Is this a great county or what.
I seriously doubt that you'll see a split below the $100 to $120 range. A split at this level - if it were to come - would more likely be 3-for-2. There's really no reason to split the stock at this level. The last time AMGN split, they just split the price from $80 down to below $40. No new shares, just less value. It seems that fewer and fewer companies are splitting their stocks. We hit split-mania back in the 1990's, and it didn't create any new value in the long run. Just more shares at lower prices. The new fad is dividend payouts. More and more companies that had never paid dividends are now doing so. That makes good sense and is more likely to give the stock a boost than a share split. I'd much prefer to see AMGN consistently INCREASE THE DIVIDEND. Hoarding unused cash in this extremely low interest rate environment makes little sense and hurts the shareholders.
Well, that's part of the story, and I agree in part, I'd rather have increases in the dividend, too.
But on the other hand, if AMGN hadn't had the half-dozen splits in the 1980s and 90s, price of a share would rival the cost of Warren Buffet's stock. I think you are mixing apples and oranges,
True, a split doesn't increase value, but it does allow the little guy to accumulate more shares, which, hopefully, continue to increase in value along with increases in the dividend, too.
