    media bias in iraq

    Here is the AP story:

Iraq Qaida chief: Sunni VP is 'criminal'
BAGHDAD - Al-Qaida in Iraq released a recording Saturday purportedly of its leader, who had been reported killed in recent fighting, criticizing the country's largest Sunni party and branding its chief, Vice President Tariq al-Hashemi, a "criminal" for participating in the government.

The statement by Abu Hamza al-Muhajir, also known as Abu Ayyub al-Masri, was seen as a warning to Sunnis not to take part in the political process that could legitimize the Shiite-led government and its U.S. backers...

    What is wrong here:

AP gets a recording of unknown provenance and impossible-to-verify authenticity...and reports it as news.

AP hears on this recording that the enemy is calling one of the Vice President's of Iraq a "criminal"...and reports it as news.

AP says that if Iraqis participate in the legitimate, elected Iraqi government then that could legitimize the legitimate, elected Iraqi government.

Essentially, this AP story - like all too many MSM stories out of Iraq - is mere enemy propaganda dressed up as a news dispatch. If you go into the story further you'll find the usual MSM litanty of how bad it was in Iraq yesterday, with no mention of anything positive happening anywhere in the country. And, of course, such gems as this paragraph:

U.S. and some Iraqi officials suspect the Iranians may be stoking a growing power struggle among Shiite factions and political parties despite the Tehran government's insistence that it is working to help bring stability to its neighbor Iraq.
Some Iraqi officials? Suspect the Iranians? Despite the Tehran government's insistence that it is working to help bring stability? Please find me the Iraqi official who doesn't believe Iran is fomenting trouble and please tell me why the Tehran government insistence is given equal billing with American and Iraqi government accusation?

The computer lingo is "garbage in, garbage out". If the only sort of information going into a person is garbage like this report, then the information coming out - ie, an opinion that we're not doing well in Iraq - will also be garbage. Only those who bother to actually find out what is happening in Iraq know the truth - and such people are a minority, and thus have to carry on a battle for victory not only against the enemy, but against the ignorance and prejudice of a misinformed population.

Boy, do you ever have that one right....
Imagine what would have happened if this were done in February of 43 during Iwo Jima, or in the summer of 45 during Okinawa!! Pelosi and Harry Reid would have been on their knees, lapping it up, in front of Hitler and Tojo..
These two (and all the rest) would have had most of the US believing that there was NO WAY to win, back then, just make nice and through money (our tax dollars) at the AXIS powers in hopes everything would be fine. If the allied forces fail to secure victory over there NOW, in about 3 to 5 years it will be ONE HECK of a MESS..
