If you would take the time, one of the other posters did an excellent job explaining the business structure of a Credit Union compared to a commerical bank. There are 4 types of private business ownership in a Capitalistic system: Individual, Partnership, Corporations, and Cooperative Corporations.
What ever you do don't get in the mindset of spending it rather than saving it! You might want to look into opening an account with a strong credit union where they typically will be paying a slightly higher rate than a bank. Another idea and this is no joke - consider an at home emergency stash - with the uncertainly of the status in Washington you might want to keep cash along with your weapons and ammunition!
@one feral, your spot on with having guns & ammo at the ready in case the US goes belly up.
Hoarding cash will do you no good in a crisis, you have to have a bartering supply such as sugar, liquor, and cigarettes. I'll bet I could get a weeks supply of food from some guy who wants a pack of cigarettes in return.
