I have not seen any news re ANAT. Their website shows no press releases. Therefore, I can only speculate about why ANAT had the big drop. The market has been weak since the election, especially for small and medium caps. People may be selling losers for tax reasons. People may also be selling stocks with good yields in anticipation of higher tax rates on dividends. And people that have owned ANAT for a long time may just be worn out waiting for it to go up.
I happen to own a lot of both ANAT and NWLI. ANAT at its current price now yields about 4.75% and sells at about 45% of book value. In addition, its held-to-maturity fixed income securities portfolio is significantly more valuable than what is shown on ANAT's balance sheet. I have taken this recent decline in ANAT's stock price as an opportunity to buy more of its stock. I think it is a very good value at this point. I intend to buy more.
