Not sure if you guys remember Windows CE, it's like the first attempt of Microsoft to make a tablet/handset type OS. Failed pretty miserably. Why? Cause that #$%$ was slow & the technology available at the time made it a painfully unacceptable. 1 to 10 second lags on GUI = death. Microsoft has been attempting to fix it for a really long time. Windows Mobile 7.5 to me was still just another CE attempt that failed miserably.
In Windows Mobile 7.5, Microsoft started to vision the next generation of mobile computing/handsets. Windows Mobile 7.5 was Microsoft first attempt at bringing to life "PC to Phone" or the "Handset PC" the concept is revolutionary but trying sell a fake concept was retarded as people aren't that stupid. It's painfully obvious that Windows Mobile 7.5 is not Windows 7 and that there's nothing revolutionary about 7.5. No one is stupid enough to buy it. Simple as that.
But, make no mistake, NOK's CEO has a revolutionary mindset and recognizes that this concept is the future. Heck! It is the whole reason why smart phones even started in the first place. Anyone who has failed to realize this will realize it in the next 5 years. & That's why NOK's CEO remains & now is on the verge of realizing the future of Handsets. When you put Windows 8 on a handset, what you get is the first generation of Handset PC. When you put Windows 8 on a tablet, what you get is the first generation of Tablet PC. Real an true to the fact. & Mobile tech is just getting faster and better and NOK has realized this is the future! There's no need to compete in the Smart Phone and Tablet market. Smart Phones and Tablets will just fade away once the true Windows 8 concept is fully realized.
Windows 8, Microsoft has finally realized the concept of "Handset PC" and "Tablet PC" true mobility at last with super smooth and completely unique GUI. Have you guys realized that for once, Microsoft has evolved to have it's on GUI concept & is no longer shadowing Apple? Apple's innovation has ended. It's merely doing revision & has moved to trying to patent jumping jacks. & Microsoft has taken the first step to put Apple in it's shadow. I'm very impressed, anyone who isn't just hasn't realized what Windows 8 is yet. I was expecting apple to do it first because apple started with iPAD which to me suggested to me they were moving to completely mobilize their OS, but they stopped their concept and innovation there and allowed Microsoft to make the headwind.
All the people here arguing for Apple iOS and Google Andriod just hasn't awaken yet. You will soon enough. These ridiculous argument based on fan sentiment won't last forever. The best example is what XBOX did to Sony PS. & How all the fan sentiment was for Sony PS, but when the future is realized, it's just a matter of time before the future takes hold.
Hype won't last for ever.......As you pointed out, "The best example is what XBOX did to Sony PS. & How all the fan sentiment was for Sony PS, but when the future is realized, it's just a matter of time before the future takes hold" - it is a matter a few months before Lumia 920 viral effect in full throttle.
One interface across platforms - one learning curve - true mobility of EVERYTHING - docs, games, cloud, photo, calendars, music, (Skype!), etc.
No one else offers the scope of Microsoft, with Windows 8, and Nokia is the tip of the spear on the mobility, and as the deal closer Nokia offers exceptional music, photo, and maps, not to mention exceptional phones.
As I've said before - I don't get why people don't get this. All I can think of is people are so focused on Apple they just don't look up and see what's coming....
