    Management

Elop has shown incompetence after incompetence, he destroyed a 35% market share of Symbian with one dumb memo, he closed factories understimating demand not being ready for it, he went exclussive with window instead of keeping his options open, he went exlussive with ATT with his falgship product, aren't these all dumb moves?

    Sentiment: Strong Buy

    • 1. Symbian needed to go. Too expensive creating a losing mobile os, one that was becoming increasingly irrelevant amidst Google and Apple. 2. closing factories: cutting costs and creating a leaner, meaner company. Do you know what kind of phones these factories produced? Probably feature phones. There were probably good reasons for closing those particular factories down. 3. Windows exclusive: Microsoft gave them a sweet deal that had almost no risk for obtaining an amazing operating system. The marketing is primarily done by Microsoft which has $26B in cash. Who better to partner with??? Google or Apple, the companies that were taking you down in the first place??? Samsung drowns out the entire Droid market, period. Nokia in Droid would have been drowned out and Nokia finished. 4. ATT: Elop just explained why he took the exclusive with ATT. Basically, a deal he could not refuse. ATT providing all the marketing. He made pretty good decisions based on the changing circumstances. Nokia is in a much stronger strategic position looking forward as a result.
