US Department of Defense signs big contract with Microsoft – adopts Windows 8
The United States Department of Defense has just awarded the software company with a three year $617 million joint enterprise licensing agreement.
Under the agreement, the Army, Air Force and DISA can begin using the newest versions of Microsoft products, including Microsoft Office 2013, SharePoint 2013 and Windows 8.
Apparently both Microsoft and the DOD have customized the combination of software and services to meet the (obviously) very specific needs of the US military.
This deal makes you wonder what smartphone they will use that will interface with their W8.
Whoa whoa whoa!! The US DoD did NOT adopt Win8. Microsoft is throwing it in Win8 as part of the general licensing deal that gives the DoD MS Office and SharePoint. It's on an "if you want to" basis with Win8. And the DoD has NOT certified Win8 for any mission-critical systems. Win8's adoption numbers are bad. Even Ballmer has said it's been "disappointing."
Rmbo gets voted down for pointing out something the average person should know.
what a bunch of pumpers.
W8 will grow into this space for certain systems, but it is not a drop in replacement.
W8 is an attempt to define a new paradigm of touch interfaces. Cell phones, tablets, PLC's. It will grow to fill the void in this area. Replacing srvers, office machines, databases, and email.
Some people just don't get it.
Sometimes, u confuse people here. U say u r long, but anti anything which is nok positive. I understand being devil's advocate, but urs is different, imo. Ur argument here doesn't make sense to me. How will dod use latest office software without adopting win8? U expect them to go back n use old win 7?
