Breaking News!Nokia introducing 41MP camera in Nokia Lumia EOS

Nokia introducing 41MP camera in Nokia Lumia EOS

Nokia is introducing its 41-megapixel image sensor to its Nokia Lumia range, in the form of the Nokia Lumia EOS, latest reports have suggested.

According to a source close to Nokia, the Nokia Lumia EOS will launch in the US this summer, featuring the same 41-megapixel Pureview sensor found on last year's Symbian powered Nokia 808 Pureview handset..

An average five times the resolution of top end smart phone cameras, the 41-megapixel image sensor was first seen at MWC 2012 in the Nokia 808 Pureview handset, the final Symbian phone that, thanks to its considerable size and weight, failed to capture consumers' imaginations.

Designed to produce good quality low-light images rather than massive images, the 41-megapixel image sensor actually takes pictures around the 5-megapixel mark, using an oversampling technique to reduce flawed data and low-light noise.

The newest Nokia Lumia handset, the Nokia Lumia 920, did not feature the 41-megapixel technology but featured Nokia’s floating lens technology in its 8.7-megapixel rear camera. The camera is set upon a moveable platform that moves as a whole to counteract any shakes in your hands or body, meaning the shutter can stay open for longer in low-light conditions. Pictures should appear less blurred and negating the need for a harsh Xenon flash in low-light conditions.

The 41-megapixel image sensor, if brought to the Nokia Lumia range should make a difference to the Nokia Windows Phone unique selling point, differentiating Nokia from its Windows Phone 8 competition and close the market share gap between itself, Samsung and Apple.

Nokia failed to comment on the Nokia Lumia EOS rumours, saying: “While we are delighted with the attention the Nokia Lumia range continues to gather, it has been our long-held policy not to comment on market rumours or speculation.”

With MWC 2013 looming just around the corner, taking place in Barcelona at the end of this month, Nokia could announce the Nokia Lumia EOS at the conference.
