    • Not the best informed of articles but the Nokia director of smart devices India says some interesting things: '"We are the challenger right now and it is very much one step at a time for us. We want to win over consumers with smartphones that are better than anything else that's out there. We'll compete at every price point with better mobile experiences," says Mehrotra.'
They are playing a long steady, targeted, uncompromising game. Sounds good to me!

    • Wow, that's a huge jump considering the size of that market. And also considering during that time they only had the 920 a few weeks, no 620, no 720, no 520 and none of the newer ASHA phones which are very much smartphones with critical features like wifi.

At this price level nokia is once again a no brainier, screaming once in a decade buy. This is just like when we went below $2 only at that time there was some real risk of BK, while right now that risk stands near zero if you really look at how far they've come and what products they have already launched and what's yet to come but waiting ready on the pipeline. 2H should truly be a rocket show for nokia.

But eh really need 2 things to keep this momentum and media love - a better flagship to compete on specs with the new iPhone 5S due in the next 2-3 months and the S4 coming out next month, and of course Better sleeker lighter looks and feel than the 920. The 928 has the latter all covered. Just look at the 720 and 520 reviews as far as looks go, they're higher than the iPhone 5 and they blow away any Samsung phones. And these are plastic phones so imagine the aluminum 928.

I just hope Elop's engineer brain doesn't get in the way of marketing. Good enough wont do it. People want specs. They need at least quad core and then a monster PureView camera which will keep nokia on top of the smartphone flagships. Anything less and Samsung and apple will burry them like they did the cheapo obsolete 900.

      • Seriously, 4% increase in under 3 months.

Do you have links or is that a guess?

I do expect a jump given nokia now has much better looking and better functioning phones than last year, in both the ASHA line and lumia. The price range is also more complete and better priced. I mean the 520 is a sleek, light, beautiful dual core phone with a good camera and most of all, full blown GPS with an iPhone 5 sized screen of 4 inches and in many colors all for $200.

The 520 is gonna be a killer phone - I expect it to sell like hot bread in emerging markets as well as Europe, it simply has so much - a complete package for such a compelling price. Carriers are gonna love it cause there's not much to subsidize.

So Q2 should see a full blown launch in India, china and Europe of the 920, 820, 720, 520 and the awesome 620. If we truly are at 35% now in Q1 when the 720/620/ and 520 have not sold in India in any real quantities then I would say by the end of Q2 we should be crossing 40% in India which is an enormous jump in just 1 year and in such a big market.

Nokia can do it cause they now have the right mix of phones at the right prices and also cause they're the number 1 brand in India. I don't see why nokia can't get to over 50% by next year and china can be 30% much the same way as India only the nokia loyalty there isn't quite as strong, hence the lower 30% goal. Nokia was there before and they have the low end market so there's no reason those people won't upgrade to another Nokia smartphone.
