    Earnings Per Share Estimate

According to my TD Ameritrade research, the Average EPS Estimate for the next Earnings Announcement on the 18th is -.052 per share. The High EPS Estimate is .026 and the Low ESP Estimate is -0.129. If Nokia has secured 2nd place in China, then -.052 shouldn't be hard to beat.

    • I doubt nokia went from last place in china to 2nd place given they had massive shortages in Q1. But it wouldn't take more than just 1 million 920 sales in china plus some 620, on top of the expanded distribution nokia saw in Q1 plus a full quarter of the 920 as opposed to 6 weeks in Q4, plus a near full quarter of the 620, albeit with limited carrier support.

That said, I think nokia will show a profit for Q1 and I simply cannot see how they can't get at least 6 million lumias. They got 4.4 million in Q4 with so many restraints that even with Q1 being the slowest quarter they should easily beat 4.4 million given how much bigger the distribution was for Q1 and then the well selling 620 came in with at least 6 weeks to spare and it also sold out in most colors.

That said, whatever the number is for Q1 I would automatically add another 3 million lumias for Q2. First, Q2 is a better selling quarter and finally, in Q2 we should see new flagships, a cheaper 920, carrier support for the 620, a Verizon 920, and global launch and full distribution for the 720 but most importantly the 520. Man, the 520 should sell like crazy in India and China. I can easily see the 520 selling at least 1 million units in china alone given its gonna be offered free on contract. It's so cheap at $200 while offering so much. A near iPhone experience and sexy look for a fraction of the price. The 620 and 520 will prove to be true market share killers for Samsung.

So, your research tells you that NOK will either make money or lose money next quarter.
      Thanks for the tip.
If you can't even estimate a positive or negative earnings you should use another indicator.
I don't think these figures are your research at all. I think you are just one of a multitude that repeats what other people say because you are easily led.
I also think the fundementals of this stock will have no bearing on the share price until GS has extracted the maximum arbitrage from retail investors.

      • Great post Dorian, you're one guy that gets it. Unless we get Goldman et al behind nokia they'll just find an excuse to turn another profitable quarter into a fluke or a non-event and kill another rally. I hope nokia beats earnings in such a way that there will be no way to deny the truth.

        Sentiment: Strong Buy

      • As I said, those numbers came from my TD Ameritrade Earnings Dates research section on their "Trade Architect" program. Just saying estimates are all over, but AN AVERAGE of -.052 should be easy to beat...that's all buddy. No repeating...not being led here....just giving some estimated numbers for the next Earnings report as provided by TD AMTD.

    • 2nd place in China? What are you talking about?

        Nokia Conquers China
Susan Fourtané, Freelance Journalist & Writer
When you run a highly competitive international marathon, it is not important to end first. It is more important to never give up, and conquer the final line with a sense of accomplishment, targets met, and vision to the future. This is exactly what Nokia (NYSE: NOK) is quietly doing. Long-awaited good news reached Nokia when the Finnish manufacturer was proclaimed the second strongest mobile phone brand in China. Samsung took the first place, whereas Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL), beaten by Nokia, was left in the third position. There is only a little difference in points between Samsung and Nokia, though, having both companies obtained 542 vs. 530 points respectively. Apple, however, ended with 411 points. The three electronics giant manufacturers are listed on the latest China Brand Power Index for 2013, which is funded by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and released by the China Brand Research Center."

      • I think Elop's forecast for Q1 was in-line with Q4 and operating margins of negative 2% to positive 2%. That's a huge range and it leaves the possibility of a profit but also a fairly good loss so we may not get a warning either way. Given how good the quarter looks I can't imagine a negative 2% margin but then again with constant shortage of the 920, what may have appeared as great sales might have been just mediocre sales.

Anybody remember the 900 and Eflop saying "we're selling them as fast as we can make them" just to turn out into #$%$ low sales the entire time. That's why nobody trust Eflop when he pumps sales. And where's the spring flagships everyone was gonna climb over each other to get? Is that more BS? Eflop has lost all credibility so I hope the sales we're seeing are real and not more fluff.
