Asha OS is Nokia's plan B

Quietly and wisely Nokia is developing its plan B. The new Asha OS is a simple smartphone OS. Nokia is building a large installed base (planning 100 million Asha customers in two years), and developing apps for the new OS.

If in two years the WP strategy will fail. Nokia will be in a position to go forward with the Asha OS, launching high-end smartphones using this OS, which will already have hundreds of thousands of apps.

It will not require Nokia to completely abandon WP, but Nokia will not be captive of the WP OS.

This is a brilliant move, which also signal to Microsoft - we are committed, but we have an alternative.
