why would belfiore go to finland right at the start of a long weekend
Friday was a holiday (summer solstice) in Finland and the Nokia office looked like a ghost town.
Only thing I can think of is to hang out with execs in a personal way -- to chat at a weekends a barbeque.
What say you?
I don't know , but what it looks like is that a lot of balls in the air... driven by Siemens decision to sell NSN stake.
They must iron out strategy and financing and that may involve MSFT either cash infusion, or purchase of some piece of the company... or not.
I was very surprised that Elop was considering selling phones division, so that realy brings into play a lot of possibilities and suggests that the board itself may not like phones as much as telecom equipment as a business for the next 5 years.
If I had to speculate, the Board may be very nervous about the trajectory of feature phones and asha vs. the slow uptake of lumia. They may see a lot of cashburn still and by contrast the cashflow from NSN and growth cycle in LTE may seem like a better horse to be riding here.
If a board is going to make major decisions regarding a spinoff then it would make sense for a MSFT rep to be on hand.
On the other hand we don't know. he may just be there for BBQ and to look at some new designs or new planning meetings.
