I do not undersatnd, please help

NOK is up nicely in the pre-market. It appears their financial condition was downgraded by S and P because of the Seimens purchase which would indicate lower pre market PPS to me. I am confused. Also the purchase to me makes Nokia a stronger and more desirable company. Opinions?

    • S&P is saying that spending Billions on NSN will impact their ability to pay their existing debt IF conditions (company and/or macro) deteriorate. They don't make an opinion of the prospects of those conditions whereas the PPS does reflect the opinion of the prospects. If NSN continues to generate cash flow and Nokia makes better profit on phones, then S&P would upgrade, likely after the PPS already reflected higher expectations. PPS might be affected by an S&P action if it were unexpected or if it was thought that the company would need to issued bonds to raise cash.

    • You have to be careful of Cramer. He has pump & dump in his blood and I know he is reading this. The problem is he can easily create an "event" as he calls it and then his disciples sell as quickly as they buy. Cramer attracts college age investors who fits into buying this exact stock and Sirius etc. The stock will continue to eventually go higher. However, it will usually have to get through the Cramer "event" when he is ready. When there are 100's of thousands of Cramer disciples it can be the perfect scenario for a pump and dump. Long timers in this stock know how he really feels and it seems phony and does not pass the smell test right now while he is on vacation.

      • Helsinki follows the U.S. It will never rally unless the U.S. is going up. The U.S. will go up until Cramer creates an event several days prior to earning. Goldman Sachs can no longer move this stock by their calls so they would do it with their money. It made it over 4 today because the ones that do it are on vacation. Otherwise, they have enough shares to sell it down as they please and have done so for a long time. This is a rare day when the big traders are at the beach and the college kids are home. We will see what happens when they come back which way it will go to pay for the vacations.

    • I'll take a shot at it,,, Say a company like Goldman Sacs holds 300 million shares of a company and say they short those shares. They are not worried about driving the price down because they can pump it up when ever they like. So they make money on the short side then on the long side. After all they KNOW what is going to happen and we don't. We are their muppets,,,,get it now?

    • The S&P rating is all about the amount of debt Nokia carries. It also ignores the cash balance Nokia currently carries, which is well in excess of total debt. Nokia rallied yesterday in Helsinki while the U.S. markets were closed for the July 4th holiday. What's happening this morning is that we're playing catch up with Europe. Helsinki remains the primary market for Nokia shares and a lot of what happens here on a daily basis is in response to the moves in Finland. You can follow Nokia's stock in Helsinki via Reuters with the symbol NOK1V.HE and see the Euro-denominated stock price. 
