They will be posting photo's around on the social channels as teasers. The photos are impressive and will make the Samsung look like a kids toy camera. The Iphone while better will not have anywhere near the detail and cannot handle low light. There is a little handle to attach to the camera. People will be able to print out photos on their own printers that look like they were taken with a high grade camera. THAT IS THE DIFFERENCE. The print out photos. The social media sites cannot do a true comparison justice. I hope some media outfit can understand that you have to COMPARE THE PAPER PRINTS. The Nokia will make the other phones ridiculous when you compare the hardcopy photos. That is stil a large portion of peoples lives. The Instagram addicts can still post the low res. shot and it will still show fine detail.
The techinical details of dpi and mega pixels is a little hard to grasp if you have not worked with them. Even the people posting the teaser shots do not understand that they should be shooting at high resolution and posting those shots on Nokia or Microsofts site and show how you can blow them up without loss of detail.
The comparison of the Nokia to Samsung will be priceless and kill sales in stores. When a customer sees the print comparison it will change most minds.
I do not do twitter or Instagram. Maybe someone who does can check. I see they just posted something on the Facebook page. I also see a picture from the 925 in london. They have a picture of balloons and bricks in NY. Best skyskape in the world and they take a picture of bricks. Keep in mind New York can be intimidating. I guess it obviously is intimidating them. Seriously, is that the best shot they could find to take?
I just did a search for NOK on Twitter. I had to get through about 100 posts before I found one in English. Didn't see any preview shots, but was impressively reminded what an amazing global presence Nokia has.
Good post, good info. Agree that in-store displays of the difference in photos will help Nokia (if done effectively) - consumers respond to visual information, and you can't get much more visual than a comparison of photos. Then you then get the halo effect - "If Nokia is this much better in photos, they must also be really good with other phone elements".
The ONLY thing that's going to change the consumers' minds is apps. It doesn't matter if the "app gap" is real or not. The public perception is what's important, and the public believes WP is lagging badly behind Apple and Android in apps.
Windows Its the most used enterprise software in the world. Cross compatibility is a big deal. To think kids don't take ,pass, and have pictures on facebook for others is ludicrous. Location shots are very popular. To have the best shots will sell the product. THIS STOCK and all new software is going to rock.
Ahhh, rmbo, the "lack" of apps is all you have left to complain about with Nokia, so every other post of your is about the "lack of apps".
Here's news for you - the number of apps matters little to the average consumer - to Apple hipsters, yes, and to some early users of Android, but today, for the average consumer, they want a phone that's easy to use and reliable and reasonable cost.
The number of apps matters less and less to newer smartphone buyers, and this at a time when the number of W8 apps is increasing daily. Recall the "80'20" rule - 80% of apps use comes from 20% of apps, and W8 has most of those.
Give it up on your app complaints - that dog won't hunt no more.
I spoke to two of the larger app development houses a couple weeks ago. Both said they see very little interest from clients in either wp or bbry. Just due to lack of marketshare vs cost. I was sourcing a developer for an enterprise app for our co. It gets pricey fast so its logical to stick with android and ios.
I went through every single app 1 by 1 for something. It was hell. No one is going to do anything with a million apps. What good is it other than to make it unuseable. You obviously do not have the device. Anyone who says there are no apps is reading some old tag line. There are a few like Instagram because zuckerberg is an a hole. They cannot make him not be an a hole. Maybe it will change tommorrow and he will not want to be an a hole tommorrow. Everyone can change. Maybe you can too.
