This will end badly for India instead of Nokia in the long term...
Any failure to transfer Nokia’s Indian assets is unlikely to affect the larger Microsoft deal, but comes at a time when India’s reputation as a favourable investment destination has been dented by a series of tax disputes involving companies including UK-based telecoms group Vodafone and Anglo-Dutch oil group Shell.
On Tuesday, the Financial Times reported that US-based technology group IBM had also launched a legal challenge following an estimated $800m tax demand relating to the operations of its Indian subsidiary.
from what i've seen in india nobody watches what happens long term
imo they are just eager to grab some bribes or short term benefits
but in the long term as pointed out in the article, they will get hit big time, as outsourcing is one of their main revenue streams
kill the golden egg goose to make soup today, be ready to pay the price when the gold will start raising again in a few years ;)
So obvious! I bet that this gets settled at the amount Nokia said they would pay. I believe other companies are watching what Nokia does to deal with the India tax authority as well.
