I'm curious about the proposed new European WCDMA standard - will this require any revision or big upgrade of the current GAM infrastructure? Or will the new standards effectively be compatable with the current GSM and not require any major changes in the base stations, etc?
mr_timer asked a question about the European CDMA standard. Is anyone knowledgeable enough to give him an answer. I heard that the European Telecommunications Standards Institute is evaluating Linear Modulation as a possible standard, and that Nokia may announce as early as Friday their alliance to this bandwith technology (LM). Could be huge licensing arrangement to whoever is involved.
Don't remember where I read it, but I think the linear modulation technology thing is used in mobile radio, i.e. police radio, etc. WCDMA addresses a completely different market. WCDMA is a modification of the air interface for the cellular type systems and requires differnt technology in the base stations
