I will be sorely disappointed in the UMWA if they don't gain some ground after this tragedy. I know there is a fine line between capitalizing on it and striking when the iron is hot. There is a local article stating that Massey sent 20 representatives out to funerals and wakes of the victims to "be there" for the families. I believe they are there to keep an eye on things.
Yeah, you can always count on a political whore to pull up their skirt. Mining is the most dangerous job period, but the political whore always seizes the opportunity to make the money shot. Disgusting
Madoff might have ruined investors, but Blankenship is responsible for these deaths. If the Fed doesn't throw this guy in jail then there is no such thing in justice in this country. If you don't know, Donnie boy spent over $1M to get a judge elected several years ago. If there is only a fine, it would be unfair to punish the corportation IMO, they should go after the CEO
I can't speak for all of the PCX locations, but my husband's prep plant is very safety conscious. It is UMWA represented, though. These men are professionals and have been doing this for a long time. They know their rights to protest anything they see that is not right. There was increased oversight after the Sago disaster and I am sure this will result in more of the same. Responsible operators have nothing to fear. I have said since the day I joined this board, that Massey's blatent disregard for their workers and the regs will bring 7 kinds of Hell down on all of them.
