Ion signed contracts at the peak of the BDI for handysize in the spot market, increase scrapping in size sector without an increase in production of handysize vessels is great news fur FREE. BDI overall may be down, but FREE is going up on increase demand and decreased supply and capital improvements.
I would really like to see the net new builds order book for just the Handy categories of ships as I would guess the biggest percentage of orders are for the biggest size ships. The Lloyd's Fair Register costs $1,610 so that's out but this gives some information from it:
Finally found some solid data on ships by type through 2015, net after scrappings. The 1/11/2010 article in Hellenic Shipping News states that the Handy/ Handymax ships number 742 worldwide and ONLY 67 NEW SHIPS will be delivered in 2010.
