Intel R&D budget 10x more than ARMH revenue ______________________________
Sure, they certainly do, no question....not to mention their superlative fabrication.
But how much do Qualcomm, Marvel, Samgsung, STMiroc, Broadcom, Texas...Apple... spend on ARM SoC R&D? What experience does Intel have in bundling/developing all the other IP blocks associated with SoC development?
Either way, even if ARM falls - thats a big if - then its a given we will all be better off having cheaper more power efficient devices and Data Centers. You should be thankful to ARM for that at least, although you might baulk at your reduced divvy :-(
Intel's success is not based on smartphones, though scum analysts and Arm management want you to think it does. Servers? ARM MIGHT have 15 percent of the server market by 2015...MIGHT. Who do you think will still dominate the market? Who do you think will have even better chips for servers by 2015 with all that R and D they'll be doing?
My bet is that both companies do well, but if one falters I'd sure bet on it being ARM, not Intel.
