    • I am a salesperson for Dish Network (but not a stockholder) & must say that at least 1/3 of the calls that I receive are from disgruntled customers of DirecTV. Dish is not perfect, however we are constantly monitored for the accuracy of the info we provide prospective new customers.
I think the major distinction between Dish & DirecTV are:
1)The pricing of Dish's service is more transparent than DirecTV
2)Superior technology of our equipment (as indepedently verified by CNET etc.)
      3)Superior (not perfect) customer service.
4)Lower overall pricing (dual receivers help)
      5)More HD channels
6)Less customer complaints (check the NY District Court judgement against DirecTV due to innacurate info from salespeople & capricious charges to their customer's credit cards.)
7)Dish is sold primarily by their own salespeople vs. DirecTV is sold
by several re-sellers where it is difficult to control their behaviour.

      • You have got to be kidding! Your customer service SUCKS! They are usless and unable to help in any way. Was told 4 different times a NEW smart card will be sent TODAY. Never received any of them. Oh wow, more HD channels, Yeah, QVC, jewelery channel, and other crap. How many watchable channels did I lose? Men's channel, water channel, etc. DISH is crap.

      • "2)Superior technology of our equipment (as indepedently verified by CNET etc.)"

It's easy when you steal others technology and when caught red handed try to put them out of business.

      • Can't believe all the customer's dissatisfaction. We have no fancy t.v., started out with Comcast, now with DirectTV.
I don't use the charge card to pay it, just my check, I get what I asked for, love football but refuse to pay for the sports pkg., watch the game when the Steelers are on the local station, never have had to call for service, it works just great, have two t.v.'s, different rooms, pay for one get a credit for the other. What's to holler about? I did see my one neighbor just picked up Comcast before they charge for the local channels and know my other neighbor always asks for a lower price than Comcast wants and gets it. I am waiting for the shoe to drop hard financially on us since Comast bought up the other company...will they raise it for us who watch these channels, or will the govt. step in.....no they won't step in. No one helps the little guy. Personally I want to throw away the t.v. and computer, save that money plus the electricity, and you won't have me.

Having been a DishNet Digital TV customer for approximately 15 years, I've sadly watched their customer support degrade to something close to completely useless. I had a new HD receiver installed just a week ago (I pay for the lease now) and it took them 4 hours to get a simple "connect the cables" installation working right. They went through two remotes - both apparently bad out of the box. I had to stand in 29 degree weather on a ladder holding a flashlight for over an hour in the dark so the Dishnet technican could install a new HD antenna. When I complained to Dishnet they essentially said "TOO BAD FOR YOU". And now I've spent approximately 16 hours on the telephone with their technical support (which does little but read from scripts) and after having them promise me they'd send me a new receiver twice, still do not have a replacement receiver. They keep wanting to send me new remotes even after they tell me the receiver is bad and that they're going to send a new receiver. How pathetic. So - my system STILL DOES NOT WORK and I can't get anyone in Dishnet to react or respond in any way that isn't written on a script in front of them. I have even been on the phone with their Executive Resolution Specialists with a net result of NOTHING. They promise to call back and never have - despite my leaving 5 messages begging them to call back. Sadly, Dishnet used to be good. But I now regret going with Dishnet and sincerely suggest that if anyone is considering renewing their contract with them - RUN. RUN to Direct TV as fast as you can. Dishnetwork simply does NOT care about their clients and once they have you over the barrel they couldn't care less. DO I REALLY WANT TO INVEST IN A COMPANY LIKE THIS? I DID, but have now recently SOLD all my stock. ZERO CONFIDENCE.

    • And if anyone does switch to DTV, they will soon realize the big mistake they made with higher prices and inferior receivers. PLUS, their customer service sucks big time. They don't even have dual receivers. I've had several friends switch from DISH to DTV and now they have to pay the price for doing so in more ways than one for the next 2 years. How sorry they are now. But they wouldn’t listen to me. They bought into the bogus DTV commercials and told me how much better off they thought they would be than staying with DISH. So I said…. “Go ahead. Make the switch but don’t bitch and moan to me afterwards.” Guess what they are doing now? YES! bitching and moaning. So now they have to reap what they have sown.

It really sucks to have bad TV.

Ask those whom made the awful mistake of going from DISH to DTV and then going back home to DISH where they had it made in the first place. They will tell you the truth. Unless they are complete idiots. And there are plenty of them out there too!

BTW, I am not a current investor in DISH stock. Sold a few years back when it was much higher than it is now. So I have nothing to gain by this post except for helping people to avoid making a big mistake and hopefully deter them from being sucked in by the evil shorts that lurk on this board for their own greedy needs and could care less about DISH investors or those who are just DISH customers looking for information.

    • I did switch 21 months ago and have 3 months left on my contract.
Than I'm going back to DISH!
I can't afford Direct's high prices plus they don't have dual receivers.

IMO Direct paid way to much for the Sunday Ticket and now all of us customers are being asked to subsidize it!

      • They're JUNK and Dishnet won't support them. I know first hand.
