There's been speculation on this pairing for a while. But now there is a real good reason for AT&T to at least try to buy DISH before it begins to build LTE and after the FCC clearance to use the AWS4. AT&T doesn't want DISH to actually build the network. DISH is playing disruptor. DISH actually has the balance sheet and cash flow from the DBS biz to pull off LTE without even sniffing at Chapter 11. It represents a Huge huge threat to the incumbents. The incumbents can't possibly want DISH to enter this market and shake things up. The incumbents are soo brazen in their disregard for customers with the tricks they play. If DISH entered, they wouldn't be charging for text messaging....$5 for 200 texts!?!?!
What DISH can do with LTE.
1. undercut AT&T, S, and VZ on mobile service pricing 2. I don't think they will wholesale but they could come up with innovative pricing models. 3. bundle lte with dbs 4. run mobile video network, cap free....blockbuster online bundle 5. 4G service to cars...replaces sirius xm satellite radio service and does much more because it's the full internet. u could buy a "family plan" data service that works across products. different handsets but also data in the car. 6. fixed wireless broadband in rural 7. pair with hughesnet for a wireless data plan.
