    Waiting for jump

I have some big money riding on this stock. Thought the recent successful placement of ECHOSTAR III would boost stock performance but I'm not that impressed yet. Willing to stick it out though. Comments welcome.

    • Historically I think one of Dish networks biggest problems was its remotely located dealers (in out of the way rural places). These were fine outlets for selling the full size Echostar dishes, however they weren't suitable for competing with cable (and
now USSB and Primestar) in urban areas. I love what they have done with direct sales and advertising efforts in papers such as USAToday. Another recent (and important) development is their licensing of their D/A conversion technology to JVC to be sold at Sears (and other places).

After all, their core competency is in selling satelite service, the money they make off of the hardware is meaningless in the grand scheme of things. (I personally told them six months ago that they should give the equipment away with a signed service agreement, the cellular phone industry has been doing this successfully for years.)

      • I believe the rural areas to be where Dish can really grow because the cable systems in most of the small towns across the country are out dated and they dont have the customer base to up grade. I live in a small town and the cable system here is not
good and from talking to other pepole around the country I find a lot of them with the same problem. Most of the cable systems in the small towns are owned by individuals or small corporations that do not have the $$ to upgrade.Cable systems in large cities are up dated and it is very hard to get that customer.
I am a dealer for Dish and we have sold several systems to pepole on cable because of poor quality picture, service, lack of choice, etc and I think when pepole really learn abt.satellite TV that is where our growth will be---- small town USA
