    The vicious circle:

The short story of the Occupation in Iraq:
Lack of security leads to lack of reconstruction which leads to lack of jobs which leads to further lack of security.

The country was formed in an ill advised way to begin with and getting the three factions to get along is going to take a long time--- and to think everyone ridiculed me when I said we would have a major presence for 10 years.

So far, there hasn't been even a hint of internal dissention. I think it's been WAY overplayed.

I agree we'll be there in 10 years but it won't be anywhere near the force size of what we had in Germany for half-a-century.

I'd agree. I think we'll have a smaller security force around for a decade, just as we did in Germany and Kosovo.

I also think that Sunni's will be the only problem since they were the minority that used to rule the country so they'll probably be lots of ill will from them. I don't see any ill-will between the Kurds and Shi'ites that will prevent them from cooperating in building their new govt.

Yes and no. Look at the polls and many people are just worried about not having to make decisions as can be evidenced in Russia as of late.
I think that some from of Democracy is necessary in the Middle East, but I am not sure how it is going to happen in Iraq. The country was formed in an ill advised way to begin with and getting the three factions to get along is going to take a long time--- and to think everyone ridiculed me when I said we would have a major presence for 10 years.
