They split the company up because they wanted the Altria arm to be a major force when marijuana is fully legalized throughout the US. Altria will be a giant compared to every mom-pop grower and have the financial flexibility to buy them out or push them out. Cigarette volumes have declined over the last 10-15 years because of all the health warnings, lawsuits, etc. No one has stated that marijuana is bad for you to the extent that they pound the cigarette products. Could MO be in line to replace/grow their own revenues taking over this industry? Not going to happen in a year, but see a 10-20 year trend?? Opinions?
I believe the laws concerning marijauna will limit a corporation's ability to 'take over' the market. You may see limits on how much may be grown by any one entity. I would prefer it to stay small scale.
