This is what crazyboy used to shoot up that theater in Colorado. According to the police report, he bought it with a 100-round magazine and 6,000 rounds of ammo. (With the 100-round magazine, "he could have gotten off 50 to 60 rounds -- even if it was a semi-automatic -- within one minute," said the local police chief.) You don't even need a license to buy one, just ID and money. I imagine the total cost was somewhere around $1400.
This isn't a gun designed for hunting or self-defense. It's a military weapon - hence the name "assault rifle," which doesn't come from its ability to assault deer and waterfowl.
There's just no excuse that allows for a random civilian to have access to that kind of firepower. None. I'm frankly surprised this sort of thing doesn't happen more often.-

Verm is an expert on intestinal parasites....on a practical basis.
He refuses to wash his hands when he comes up from the cellar, which he also uses as his toilet.
On nights when it's his turn to cook, Mother Verm always comes down with a case of the screaming wheelies, which is what happens as she races the wheelchair to the handicapped bathroom.
That's why Verm only cooks once or twice a month.
It does help Momma keep her weight down however.
