What's immediately obvious is that any and all proposed changes are purely cosmetic. Every point raised by ol Reince falls squarely into the PR realm. Because even if you spend a million dollars giving a pig a makeover, you're left with a pig. And unlike today's GOP, a pig can be trained not to be completely odious and obnoxious.
Their real problem lies with the content of their message, not the presentation. But given how far they are into denial mode, they'll need to lose a few more cycles before even contemplating a change to their creepy policies. The base won't let them moderate their approach...and in the end that will kill them.
The only thing the GOP has going for them is gerrymandering - which will probably allow them to maintain control of the House for another decade or so. But you're right - they won't be winning a national election anytime soon. Conservatives have spent the last 50 years making themselves what they are today: repellent gun-crazy racists and plutocratic theocrats. Don't forget, they've lost the popular vote in 5 of the last 6 prezidential elections.

I believe there are 12 House seats currently held by a GOP'er that have near majority Democratic populations. The South and Texas, Okla, and Kansas are all hopeless basket cases, but there are a number in states that went for Obama that are very possible for Democrats in 2014. Michele Bachmann is a very good example. She barely won re-election. There are some in Michigan, WI and California. We would need every one to counter the blue dogs that are still around.
As long as the GOP continues to send lunatics to the Senate elections, we will hold the Senate. This is a very big year for the Senate. Lots of folks up for re-election, and most are Democrats.
Idiotic democrap have nothing to scream about but rather face same problems GOP is facing. The problems are in the old guard leaderships of both parties - those Reids, McCains, Pelosi's etc who should have retired decades ago but don't because they are still raking in the $$. The GOP is at least ahead of the democraps in tackling the issue and will in a near matter of time, way over take the democraps.
