    Permanent Republican Minority

For the third time in less than 20 years, congressional Republicans are bringing the nation’s government to a halt in an attempt to reverse the outcome of national elections. The first instance was Republicans’ shutdown of the government in 1995-96 (which, actually, was two shutdowns in rapid succession). The second was their impeachment of President Bill Clinton in 1998. Today, we’re slogging through the third — yet another shutdown.

Each instance had its proximate causes. In 1995, the GOP-controlled Congress, led by House Speaker Newt Gingrich, refused to fund the government after Clinton rejected its spending cuts to Medicare benefits and Republicans failed to muster the votes to override his vetoes. In 1998, the House, led by then-Majority Whip Tom DeLay, impeached Clinton for having sex with an intern but denying it to a special prosecutor (whose charge, uncovering Clinton’s alleged business scandals, had turned up nothing). This week, Republicans have shuttered the government to pressure President Obama to stop implementation of the Affordable Care Act. Repealing the health-care law would require either a Republican president or veto-proof majorities in both the House and Senate, but Republicans failed to elect any one of these in 2012...

    Nor will they.

Conservative ideology depends on fear, and most Americans are tired of having fake fear rammed down their throats. Conservatives are motivated solely by fear. That's it. Fear of the unknown, fear of things that are different, fear of change, fear that the government is coming to take what they inherited, and fear of a world in which they're not guaranteed social superiority and the institutions of society do not cater to them. Right now they're afraid and they've talked themselves into a pseudo-religious frenzy to (over) compensate for it.

    Paranoid, reactionary xenophobes.

    • Getting desperate carci?

Which side said they "won't negotiate"?
Which side said they don't want to fund NIH and save a child cancer victim?
Which side blocked WW2 veterans from accessing the OPEN AIR monument in their honor?
Which side blocked the re-opening of the national parks?

I'm sure the "I'm not negotiating" posture is going to be well received outside the beltway and NYC, right carcitard?

      LMFAO.

As I said before, he WILL fold, and the GOP will get something they want out of this. Mitch McConnell said it last night: his position that he won't negotiate is simply not the way it works in divided government. Everyone but the true believers who watch MSLSD KNOWS that.

And recall what I said before: The Dims have ALREADY conceded spending consistent with the sequester. You recall the sequester that was going to usher in a new dark age of famine and joblessness per the lying n*****? Thus the negotiations are happening on the Dim side of the field.

In my book, that spells LOSS.

Small wonder, you and Pilo_dosh1t are becoming more unhinged by the minute!

      ROFLMFAO.

Nope. 37 Texas, Mississippi, Kansas, and Oklahoma white flabby old men do not get to destroy the democracy. Your kind are just like the dixicrats that went crazy when segregation was outlawed.

        Sentiment: Strong Sell

"Which side blocked WW2 veterans from accessing the OPEN AIR monument in their honor?"

Boeidiot thinks that is a vital government need.

The FDA, EPA and NASA are largely shut. The Defense Department is very short on workers. And boeidiot thinks that some senile flag-wavers not being able to salute at a monument is a catastrophe.
