would make sense if the cost is right as these poly panels will be high efficiency and from another US company. Remember, SCTY had an agreement to buy FSLR Thin Film a few years ago. Does anyone know any details on the below agreement as I never heard of SCTY installing thin film. (source SCTY website , Press Releases)
TEMPE, Ariz., and FOSTER CITY, Calif., Oct. 29, 2008—First Solar, Inc. (Nasdaq:FSLR) and SolarCity Corporation today announced a module supply agreement and investment that will make solar power an affordable option for more U.S. homeowners and businesses. The two companies have entered into a five-year agreement that calls for First Solar to supply 100 megawatts of its advanced thin film solar modules to SolarCity, marking First Solar’s entrance into the U.S. residential segment. Pursuant to the agreement, First Solar will begin delivering modules to SolarCity in the first quarter of 2009. First Solar will also make a $25 million equity investment in SolarCity; part of a $30 million round of financing that will fund SolarCity’s continued U.S. expansion.
Why buy the panels, just buy the company. Once we are owned by Elon then earnings do not matter anymore. If by chance you do make money they get a 100+ P/E. So FSLR under their wings is worth at least $400-800 per share. You think I jest !!!!!
scty does not produce panels of their own; they have to buy them either from fslr or sun power. The stronger the roofing business, the better it is for fslr to sell it's high efficiency panels from Tetrasun and new production batch. Monster Q4 will cause many shorts to have heart attacks.
thanks for that groundbreaking news, i'm aware SCTY doesn't produce panels. my point is currently they buy from Yingli, Trina, and other Chinese firms because of the low cost. so can FSLR compete pricewise with them.
