Says it makes sense for Kroger to buy SVU's Jewel-Osco which is number 1 in the Chicagoland market with 34% of the food biz. Kroger has 15 Food4Less stores in the 8Million person Chicagoland area; Jewel-Osco has about 180 stores.
I doubt it. Publix and HE Butt on the South. Safeway on the West and in Chicago. Target is going all Super or Super light. Aldi is a machine. WMT is perhaps loosing some steam, but still strong. The grocery game is super competitive. I do like KR, they are a strong company.
Just because you work in a store with a customer base made up of a certain ethnic group does not mean that all Kroger stores have similar mixes. With 2600 stores, Kroger does business in rich white areas, poor white areas, all black inner city, majority black rich and middle class areas, hispanic areas, Total melting pot, etc, etc. etc. The store my mother shops at has about 50/50 mix of black to white with a good portion of other ethnic groups tossed in. The Richest people in town ( including the political class) shop there, but the store accepts more food stamps than any other store in the division.
My local store is about the same, but there are a lot of college students tossed in.
Of course we're in the south so our towns aren't as segregated as they are in Ohio.
