Turns out the senior BP official on the rig had prior knowledge of unusual pressure the day before the blow-up. On top of that the personel running the rig were bogus. Unqualified and not certified to run the operation. JKP
Thank you, stagg. I have a unnique perspective in that my father was an oilman so I owe almost everything I have to petroleum, yet my heritage, on his side no less, is South Louisiana. I've taken several swamp tours given by off-season shrimpers where they pointed out the debris left by drillers in the swamp. I used to vacation there several years in a row before Katrina, volunteered after Katrina in the animal barns. It's a mixed bag: on one hand, Louisiana gets a lot of income from oil, on the other hand, well, we have this unforgiveable mess. So you can say "bad oil company" all day long but they've happily taken the $$ for decades. Hard to regulate the hand that feeds you but I hope they do a better job from now on.
A-date...Maybe some people need to focus on the things that BP has done right instead of what they have done wrong...! First, BP hit a outstanding well that produces a lot of oil which we need very bad...! Second, coal mines and oil will always be a messy and dangerous business...! Third, as the cost of producing oil and coal increase...we are the people that pay for it...! That said, I have four farms in So. Illinois and they have salt killed ground, pipes and abandoned oil tanks on them left by oil company's that have gone bankrupt and out of business...but nobody cares about that ...! While I grip about the mess on my farms left by oil companys forty years ago, at that time, I also enjoyed driving around paying 25 cents a gallon for gas...! Sometimes we need to look at the whole picture...!
stagg, no complaints about any spill as long as it's an accident. But, we're finding out that BP was just about totally wrong in its handling of this operation. Can't imagine why you'd have farm land with oil debris on it. Inherited? Blatant disreguard for safety and no plan 'B' for a spill. This was criminal. And jail time should be coming forthwith. JKP
