    OT: ARLP....!

    Board members...ARLP (yield about 6.7%) has turned in outstanding earnings and increased the distribution....ARLP beat est. earnings by 58 cents a share which is an increase of 23% over March of 2012...the forward outlook is very strong as they will soon open two more mines (they also bought a coal lease from me in southern Illinois)....! $tagg...!

    • Stagg, You were right about this company. I was wrong to paint the entire coal industry with a negative brush just because this administration has declared a war on coal. The good news is this is my only coal stock which I've owned for such a long time my cost basis is $11.80.(and that's without deducting the 'return of capital' distributions). Probably will have to start paying tax on those distributions soon.

        From the environmental perspective, coal has been on the way out for years because industries have a vested economic interest in using a fuel that burns cleaner and produces heat more efficiently. The utilities that are executing on their plans to phase out older coal burners formulated those plans before Obama took office. With natural gas as cheap as it is, there is no longer a economic incentive to power with coal. .
