    introduction/ need ideas

Hello, I wanted to introduce myself. I have held sfl since the FRO spin-off, and have just recently taken a greater interest in managing my portfolio. I was doing a little research on SFL and stumbled on this board. It looks like you have a good bunch of people here, and I will try not to muck it up for you.

Anyway, I have recently sold some stocks and have some cash available for deployment and was looking for some ideas to research. I have a substantial % of my portfolio in stocks which do not produce yield, so I am looking to add additional income producing stocks. To give you an idea of my investment style my top 10 positions by value is currently. EMC,BSX,PGH,PG,JPM,TM,AESpC,MSFT,GE,CSCO

I would be interested in seeing what some of your top holdings are if you would be kind enough to share.

    • Chris,
      If you're not sure about investing in individual stocks you can also look at a few mutual funds. I have a basket of 4 high "morning star" rated funds that have produced about 19% YTD. They are;
      VHCOX, VISVX, VEXMX and NAESX.

    • chris...my current holdings are TWO, MTGE, NCT, NRZ, NYMT, KKR, AI, SFL, SDRL. NTI, CVRR, ALDW, PETDX and FJSCX....I try to maintain high yields and some growth...at this time my average weighted yield is about 13.8% a year and I am up about 12.3% YTD in Total Returns...my top picks for 'high yield and long term growth' is PETDX, SFL and SDRL...! Good luck on your choices and keep in touch...! $tagg...!

    • chris,
I am heavily weighted towards energy stocks, starting with oil and gas infrastructure and leading into E&P. My top five are:
      GLNG, 10.5% of my portfolio
      TOO, 8.8%
      SDRL, 8.3%
      SFL, 7.0%
      XOM, 7.0%

For income, you have to look at the refining MLPs ALDW, CVRR and NTI.

    • Welcome to the board. There are a lot of great people who make contributions of ideas for the rest of us. If you have been reading for a while you should be familiar with their names. My top holdings are SFL, T, NYCB, CLMT, MO, PM, and CINF--all paying a nice dividend. I also have interest but not as much money in NCT, TWO, NTI, GE to name a few.

Again welcome. I have enjoyed this board more than any I have come across. Good luck.

      • Gentlemen,
I wanted to let you know I picked up some small lots of psec, and UAN.

I am selling some of my HPQ. I do believe it can go higher but I have come to the realization you get a 10-15% pop you should take some profits. I do have some out of the money calls on HPQ and will keep some shares. I did the same with csco on their recent earnings pop.

Also finally getting around to selling some best buy at a loss. thankfully, It barely survived end of year tax selling, mainly due to the dividend, and has been running ever since. I need to realize the losses to offset some gains. With the run the dividend isn’t as impressive as it once was. I like to have some brokerage cash available for buying opportunities and its a little low. This sale is primarily driven for those reasons.

Any thoughts on SFL earnings? Report after the close.
