The plain and simple reason for the recent decline is that one of lthe large fund holders is making a sector rotation...selling a conservative investment for a more aggressive one now that the market has stabilized. The selloff has NOTHING to do with the Company. When the seller is done, the stock goes right back up...It's FREE MONEY!!!!!!! I love it...PLEASE, take it to $4....I'm buying now, and I will keep buying, because you never know when the seller will be done, but when he is...the stock goes straight up!!!!
Traveler, you are absolutely right about settlement date for us as individuals and for taxes but that wasn't really my point. My point was that this period is oftentimes when stocks usually bottomed out. Most funds have finished their selling so they can purchase whatever they want to show in their portfolio just before Christmas so that what they buy is in their portfolio at year end (after settlement) for their year end report. That's why I believe you see the pre-Christmas bottom, although as I said that's a sweeping generalization that may not apply to all equities. I hope I explained it better this time.

I was expecting this kind of action in the last part of November. So many funds declare long/short term capital gains in Mid-December, I thought it may be safe come Dec. 1st. Do you, Bull or others know when we'll have access to the fund name driving this movement?
I'll hold off a bit longer on my re-entry.
Traveler, a fund or individual with a large enough position to be considered a beneficial owner has to file a Schedule 13 around the time of the sale. I'm not sure of the exact requirements since I've never had to do it (working on that, though!) but it does come pretty close to the sale.
On the other hand, SCI has many non-beneficial funds that can sell or buy without that filing requirement. These funds do file quarterly reports and it will be possible to see their changes in position at some point in the future. However, this is Q4 and the quarter end isn't until the end of December. The funds have a couple of months to file their quarterly reports, so it could be as long as February before you'd be able to see changes in position.
I guess my general thought is that this is interesting data but what value does it really have if you knew that Putnam sold and T Rowe Price bought? I like making my decisions based on my own analysis and not on others, including fund managers. As I said in a prior post, this is a company which has a good story that's getting better. I've been adding on weakness. There'll be a time when those who didn't buy will kick themselves for not buying, IMHO.
What's your target entry point, Traveler? Despite what the bashers, SCI and DCI haters, and the perpetual shorts would have people believe, it looks like we are coming close to a good time to increase holdings, or to establish a new position.
DENIAL...aint a river in Egypt bud...
Here's a Company who is getting its ass kicked by the locally owned and operated homes...look at funeral revenues for latest quarter...second, more people are opting for cremation and that trend is expected to only increase over time....People are becoming very cost conscious if they do decide on a formal burial...third, SRV still has a mountain of debt that will take years to pay off....fourth, the Board of this Company is a bunch of good ol boys who just collect dust and a paycheck and don't know how to change and adapt to meet the needs of today....Waltrip, his son, (little nepotism there?), Foyt, Finkelstein...they are all a bunch of lazy asses who like to party in the Caribbean.
Just a note...check out how much stock Finkelstein has been dumping lately.....If you want to own this dog, be my guest .....but don't dupe other folks into thinking this stock is worth investing a plug nickel into...
