Interesting story on marketwire about UWN launching a free online gaming app on Facebook. I guess playing
I for free online is supposed to encourage players to come into the real casino? Or maybe they sell online ads? Or maybe they are positioning their free site for when real online gaming becomes legal in the US?
I keep thinking of the old joke about the business that makes change. They don't make any money on the transactions, but they make it up in volume.
This is how it works: They give the app away for free and give the players a certain amount of free points each day to play with. The players can then buy more points after their free points run out, but of course they can't ever redeem their points back for cash. This works only if the game is well designed and is actually fun to play. My friends and family have actually been addicted to a similar facebook app called slotomania. I hate to admit it, but it's actually pretty cool. I've never actually purchased points because I'm too cheap, but I play off the free points every day. It's fairly addicting and I suspect plenty of people buy points.
