While Kodak is out of Chapter 11, the company now refocused on the B to B and graphics industries new ambitions. Claude Desbrugères, the President of France and the Benelux introduces the new Kodak .
Kodak is now out of Chapter Eleven. what does this mean for society?
Claude Desbrugères - Indeed, Kodak has since returned to a completely independent company. As a reminder, this period lasted 20 months and was concerned that the United States and certain related subsidiaries. The output of Chapter eleven means that Kodak becomes a healthy, human scale, which was again able to fully implement its strategy in the field of graphic arts.
The new Kodak is no longer the one we knew. Can you introduce?
CD - Kodak is fully refocused in the field of graphic arts in the world dedicated to the printing business. The company is relieved of many activities, including consumer products for photographic character and professional scanners.
What is the new perimeter of Kodak ?
CD - On its new scope, Kodak has an annual revenue of $ 2.7 billion and employs 8,500 people worldwide. The company is among the top five suppliers of graphic arts in the world.
This scope comes in several additional markets ...
CD - Our core business is the basis of the market offset plates for the printing and packaging, and for offset and flexo CTP burn. Workflow also because it is essential to provide the backbone of the industrial organization of professionals. In parallel, we are very active in the market for digital presses in electrophotography with Nexpress range, and we develop strongly in the ink jet technology with the Stream. In this regard, it should be noted that this technology is unique in the world by its performance. We are therefore only able to integrate inkjet heads can follow a press offset its nominal production speed of 900 meters per minute! The market for hybrid digital is clearly a market where our ambitions are very strong, which enable printers to differentiate and develop printed products with high added value.
How is the sales of the new Kodak ?
CD - The market for CTP plates and represents 60% of the activity of the new Kodak . New markets, electrophotography and inkjet already represent 40% of our business through very diverse complementary technologies. As such, we have to realize the sale of 33 heads inkjet print, mounted on rotating the German Axel Springer group, which prints the Bild. These heads can print a variable number lottery, different on each copy paper of the newspaper, which has boosted sales!
What are the priority development of Kodak today?
CD - The packaging sector is clearly central to our ambitions. We have a comprehensive range of solutions, ranging from consumables and equipment, both in flexo offset. In flexography, the market is large for us, and direct engraving plates is a major challenge because it provides a very high level of quality. Beyond this, the market for smart packaging , namely to make the packaging intelligent, through QR codes allows us to consider incorporating our inkjet solutions on current technologies through of appropriate partnership.
Exactly, many of your developments and spend now will go through partnerships formed specifically to address certain markets.
CD - Be aware capitalize on its strengths and partner with business specialists. You could see on the Drupa, the fruit of our partnership with Timson in the field of media . It goes without saying that this should intensify in the coming months.
Another area on which you grow, the fonctional printing or industrial printing. Can you tell us more?
CD - We just signed several partnerships in this field, one with respect to UniPixel feel touchscreens. Our technologies are able to reproduce two of the 17 layers of a touch screen for a common cost-free measurement with current technologies. This should be a business turnover of 20 million dollars in the first year.
In fact, Kodak is now a revolution, as the Swedish Ericsson did it a few years ago ...
CD - Our business focus allows us to be healthy, strong company markets B to B, on which we are leaders or where we have strong technology. The packaging industry contain further growth potential very important.
Turnover means revenue in Europe. Of course we are not JV partners with Kodak yet. They just make the #$%$ for us. So currently the revenues to Kodak are a small portion of the cost to produce the product. So the 20 million could be anything. We also don't know. Could be Dell revenues are only UNXLs. who knows for sure. I like that they mentioned us. I would like to know more.
My favorite part is:
"We just signed several partnerships in this field, one with respect to UniPixel feel touchscreens.
