    News here SCOX:

<Attorneys pro se bill according to the value of their legal services. This represents a surprisingly small drain on the financial resources of the client - a good thing for someone who, with such representation, will need to save some money for court costs.>

My head may explode. I thought:
"pro bono" - real lawyer works free for someone else
"pro se" - someone acts for themselves as a lawyer (but they aren't one)
"per se" - common term meaning self-evident

I was really hoping Merkey would end up suing himself for unpaid legal fees. It's a logic gap, but one that sufficient peyote might bridge.

    • It was a joke based on the maxims that someone representing himself has a fool for a client and free advice is worth what you pay for it. I suppose a pro se can charge whatever he likes, but since he can only represent himself and only bill himself, the IRS would would view the transaction as a wash.

      Almost correct.
"pro se" - someone represents themselves (instead of hiring an attorney). They MAY be a lawyer themselves. But there's a saying that such a lawyer has a fool for a client.
