I capitulated this morning and sold out at $14.52. That was my break even point and I was happy just to break even. I want to thank rockraider3 for his patience in explaining the terms of the paas buyout. It really helped. I might be cured on buying mining stocks - too many variables (politics, poor management, accidents, etc.) I think I'll form a support group for anyone who feels compelled to own mining stocks. I wish everyone the best and hope mfn goes higher. Over and out.
Evansken99, I have mixed feelings regarding your analysis.
True enough, mining stocks (particularly junior and mid-tier miners such as MFN) are no easy business. So here I agree with you. Actually there are even other important variables affecting mining stocks, so you are correct.
Nevertheless (and here I cordially disagree with you) please don´t forget that mining stocks could end up being just about the ONLY game in town, sooner than you think.
Here is were macroeconomics comes into play, and you have to be very strong at that also in order to follow the real underpinnings behind mining stocks.
Regarding whether to keep PAAS shares or not, yes there is plenty of time still and (as you suggested) MFN might yet get a better offer from a third miner if silver prices go higher ($45 plus maybe ?) and stay there.
